The Coronavirus Disease 2019 is an Infectious disease, officially known as COVID-19. The single-stranded RNA virus, SARS-CoV-2 causes it. The Outbreak of this viral disease was first observed in Wuhan, China over the past few months, It spread to other parts of the world, Itlay being the most affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared this outbreak as a pandemic. More than 6,000 deaths and 1,69,000 confirmed cases of infected people have been reported worldwide due to this outbreak. A scientist is not certain where the virus originated, though they know that coronavirus which also includes SARS and MERS are passed between animals and humans.
Now, there are no treatments for the disease, but labs are working on various types of treatments including a vaccine.
THE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19
The Symptoms of the disease resemble that of the flu, This includes fever, dry cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle pain, sore throat, nausea, headache, and chills. The highly infectious coronavirus gets spread through droplets exchanged between people from coughs and sneezes. Recovery depends on the strength of the immune system, Many of those who have died were already in week health. The antiviral drugs we have against the flu will not work.
Similar to other respiratory illnesses, older people and those with illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure are at increased risk. Early studies have also suggested men are at greater risk. There’s also no evidence that children are more prone to contracting Covid-19, according to CDC, and that was also the case with the disease’s cousins, SARS and MERS.
