According to a report from ‘Comparitech‘ and security researcher Bob Diachenko. That info was found in a database that could be accessed without a password or any other authentication, and the researchers believe it was gathered as part of an illegal scraping operation or Facebook API abuse.
The database, which Diachenko discovered with a search engine, was freely accessible online for at least 10 days beginning December 4, 2019, he said. He notified the internet provider where it was hosted when he found it on December 14, 2019; five days later it was no longer available.

Diachenko said someone downloaded the database to a hacker forum two days before he discovered it so it may have been shared among online thieves.
To avoid having their information taken from their profile, Comparitech recommends that Facebook users should change their Privacy settings to only allow friends to see their posts and enable to setting to omit their profile from search engine results.
Diachenko traced the database to Vietnam, but couldn’t specify exactly how the information had been obtained. Comparitech said the database could have been stolen the information from the Facebook developer’s API, which shares some sensitive information with app creators.
Facebook in response to the latest leak said that it was looking into the matter. “We are looking into this issue, but believe this is likely information obtained before changes we made in the past few years to better protect people’s information,” the company said in a statement to the US-based media channels.
