The first novel is written for an adult audience by the mega-selling of the Divergent franchise. Written her own “Chosen One” story in the Amazing Hit YA trilogy Divergent Roth is return with her first adult novel to explore what might happen to these so-called chosen ones after they’ve hung up their proverbial capes. Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth is the cure for all those humdrum one true savior narratives. This dark complex novel rocked my heart and left me with a renewed sense that saving the world is a job that never ends.
Chosen Ones is a mix of quite a few fan-favorite genres. It combines magical fantasy with superheroes, topping everything off with a touch of political commentary.
A decade ago near Chicago, five teenagers defeated the otherworldly enemy known as the Dark One, whose reign of terror brought widespread destruction and death.
On the Eve of the 10-year Celebration of Peace, a new Trauma hits the Chosen: The death of one of their own. And when they gather for the funeral at the enshrined site of their triumph, they discover to their horror that the Dark One’s reign never really ended.
I have been a huge fan of Veronica Roth’s for a long time and I remember diving into the first 2 Novels in the Divergent series during a sick day in college and being captivated from the very first page.
She wrote such beautifully detailed stories with characters that felt extremely real and relatable and not only that, but she wrote these stories within the confines of expertly built worlds and It’s safe to say that I had huge unexpected expectations.
