The first official image for DC universe STARGIRL has been released. The highly anticipated superhero drama will follow high school student Courtney Whitmore as she discovers the Cosmic Staff and becomes the superhero known as Stargirl. Through her journey, Courtney will learn about her stepfather’s ties to the Justice Society of America: the very first superhero team. Stargirl has appeared on the small screen in shows like SMALLVILLE and LEGENDS OF TOMORROW but this will be the hero’s first solo show.
WELCOMING THE NEW CHARACTER IN THE DC UNIVERSE-
Stargirl is a very personal project for Johns. As he recounted in a heartfelt open letter to fans the character was directly inspired by his late sister Courtney, who was among those killed in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. In fact, Stargirl was one of Johns’ first priorities after stepping down as DC chief creative officer and establishing his production company Mad Ghost Productions.
STARGIRL CAST AND RELEASE DATES-
DC Universe revealed the official poster and banner for Star girl earlier today, showing off both the heroes and villains. The members of the Justice Society of America can be seen in the poster positioned above the members of the Injustice Society. The poster features the stars Brec Bassinger (Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl), Luke Wilson (Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E), Yvette Monreal (Yolanda Montez/Wildcat), ANJLEIKA WASHINGTON; Cameron Gellman (Rick Tyler/Hourman), Joy Osmanski (Ms. Brooks/Tigress), Christopher James Baker (Dr. Henry King/Brainwave), Neil Hopkins (Crock/Sportsmaster), Nelson Lee (Dr. Ito/Dragon King), and Neil Jackson (Jordan Mahkent/Icicle). The show will also star Amy Smart (Barbara Whitmore), JOEL MACHYLE and many other talented actors.
Stargirl premieres on DC Universe on Monday, May 18, with new episodes airing weekly. Each episode will also air the following Tuesday on The CW.
Stargirl is sure to be a welcome addition to The CW’s lineup as the Arrowverse shows finish up their seasons. This also opens up the potential for Stargirl and her compatriots to make an appearance in future Arrowverse crossover events, following their debut in Crisis on Infinite Earths. STAR GIRL joins BATWOMAN and SUPERGIRL as a DC show focusing on a female lead, hopefully, attribute fans will appreciate when the show premieres in May.
