Netflix’s Queen Sono is the perfect cocktail of an Action-espionage thriller and family drama. This show is created by Kagiso Lediga. The show also happens to be the streamer’s inaugural African original and hence had a lot of expectations from the audience and critics alike. Queen Sono season 1 premiered on February 28, 2020, on Netflix in all its entirety of 6 episodes.
The season 1 opened to positive responses, with critics praising the show for its fresh approach, geopolitical and historical references and a superb performance by a contemporary black heroine.
Queen Sono is an action-packed spy drama that revolves around the titular South African spy. Queen’s methods are unconventional and yet she succeeds in almost all her missions, sometimes even against the wishes of her superiors.

At the end of the final episodes, despite Queen having successfully prevented a terrorist attack, the primary antagonist remains at large and furthers her status as a wanted woman by brutally murdering Queen’s grandmother, while Sandhu is becoming increasingly radicalized.
Away from the screencast, It’s likely that comedian Kagiso Ledgia who created, co-write and directed the show will remain in a prominent role behind the camera a going forward. But the person who won’t be returning is Abigail Kubeka who played a character that was killed off in the first season Queen paternal mother Mazet.
