For the past few years, along with rumors of a new Metroid series and the work being done on Metroid Prime 4, there’s been talk off-and-on about this particular game getting a re-release to go with the next game if and when it ever comes out. Even during a coronavirus pandemic, retailers leak new details on video games all the time as is the case this week with the Metroid Prime Trilogy. The rumors of the Nintendo Switch port of Metroid Prime Trilogy are starring up again, as an online retailer has listed the game before taking it down once it was officially noticed.
Currently, no Metroid games on the switch, barring Metroid and Super Metroid, which can only be accessed by subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online. Metroid Prime 4 was officially announced for the Switch at E3 2017, but it was later canceled and had its development restarted with a new team. There have been numerous rumors that a Switch port of Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Nintendo Wii has been in development for a while, but the delay of Metroid Prime 4 put its release state in limbo.
The last announcement of Paper Mario: The Original King has given some credence to these rumors. The Paper Mario trailer hints at a new Marvel game, while the impromptu nature of the reveal for that game means that Nintendo could easily shadow drop announcements of its summer releases.
