Knives Out 2 isn’t officially happening yet, but Johnson has expressed interest in making more movies with Daniel Craig. As of January 5, 2020, Johnson confirmed that he’s currently working on the script for the sequel and would like to get it made with the upcoming year. The original Knives Out was one of 2019’s breakout hits, earning widespread critical acclaim including an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and over $300 million at the worldwide box office.
Knives Out was a great turning point in Rian Johnson’s career as a follow up to his polarizing, yet financially successful Star Wars: The Last Jedi, by earning impressive box office returns and widespread acclaim from critics and audience alike.
The Screenplay for Knives Out 2 is currently in the works by Rian Jhonson, who will also be returning to direct the sequel.
Even Knives Out 2 was officially confirmed to be in development, Rian Johnson had been teasing the idea of a sequel following Daniel Craig’s southern accented, cigar-chomping, desert metaphor spewing detective Benoit Blanc on another brain-scrambling case.
Personally, I’m curious to watch Johnson further define was a Knives Out movie is beyond just Benoit Blanc. Will they have a comic tone and will they have a gorgeous production design?
Knives Out 2 release date is not confirmed. It only received Lionsgate’s blessing in early February and movie making takes time folks and Knives Out 2 could come out sometime in 2021 and 2022. Between writing the sequel’s script, filming and post-production a two year time for a second Knives Out seems realistic.
