HBO’s high-budget adaptation of – and the sequel to – Alan Moore’s seminal comic Watchmen has been a smash hit, with critics praising the series for its storytelling and invention. Naturally, fans of the show, which shows on Sky Atlantic in the UK, have started wondering whether Watchmen will be given a second series.
Though creator Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) has given interviews entertaining the possibility of another season, he recently announced it was unlikely.
WHAT’S THE WATCHMEN SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE?
Assuming a second season does get produced, we might have to wait a while. Lindelof told metro.co.uk that the writing team hadn’t saved any ideas for use in a future season, instead of cramming everything they could into the existing nine episodes. Executive producer Nicole Kassell gave us hope for one during an interview with Business Insider:
“As a fan who has seen this whole thing, I definitely think there is content for a season two, if not more. I think it would be delicious and wonderful to see.”
IN FUTURE IF SEASON 2 CONFIRMED THEN WHO’S IN IT?
WATCHMEN S2 – We now know that the following characters did survive, so they’re likely to return in a second outing as well:
- Regina King as Det. Angela Abar/Sister Night
- Tim Blake Nelson as Wade/Looking Glass
- Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias
- Jean Smart as Laurie Blake
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN SEASON 2 OF WATCHMEN?
WATCHMEN SEASON 2 – There were also a few throwaway references to Dan Dreiberg (Patrick Wilson), the former Nite Owl II and Laurie’s ex. After he and Laurie (Jean Smart) were captured doing vigilante work, Laurie joined the FBI and Dan went to prison.
It’s obvious that Laurie is still concerned for him, and given the numerous Nite Owl references scattered across the series and the unearthing of his ship in the season finale, it’s well within the bounds of possibility for him to make an appearance in a potential Season 2.
