Terrence McNally was an American playwright, librettist, and screenwriter. He was born on November 3, 1938, in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. He is one of the greatest contemporary playwrights. His parents ran a seaside bar and grill called the Pelican club, but the hurricane destroyed the establishment, the family brief reallocated to Port Chester, New York, then to Dallas, Texas and finally to Corpus Christi.
He was is in high school when he was encouraged to write has become a dedicated protege gifted to his English teacher named Maurine McElroy. He is a graduate in B.A. English and membership in Phi Beta Kappa society. In 1961 he was hired by novelist John Steinbeck.
After graduation, he was moved to Mexico to focus on his writing, completing a one-act play. And he became the most famous playwright and screenwriter. He won many awards and nominations. Award is – Best play, Best book of a musical, outstanding new award (American) and so on. McNally’s career spanned six decades, encompassing plays, musicals, and operas. It ranged from the AIDS drama Lips together, teeth apart to domestic drama Frankie and the stage musical adaption of the movies The Full Monty.
McNally was a lung cancer survivor and had lived with a chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. As we all known that there was widespread coronavirus in the world and due to the complications of the coronavirus he died on 24 March 2020. McNally was 81, died on Tuesday at Sarasota memorial hospital in Sarasota, Florida according to representative Matt Polk.
Terrence McNally said that ” I was like to work with people who are a lot more talented and than me who make fewer mistakes than I do and who can call me our when I do something lazy “.
