U T Khader is a member of the Indian National Congress and he was the only Congress MLA who won from Dshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the 2018 State election. Khader defeated Santosh Kumar Rai of the BJP party by a big margin of 19,739 votes.

He is the first Muslim leader to become Karnata State Assembly’s speer. His name for this post was proposed by CM Siddaramaiah.
