The DJ was accused of strangling the former Generations: The Legacy actress on May 7, 2023, and striking her with open hands. She questioned him about an occurrence that took place at a location where he was scheduled to perform the previous evening.
Phongolo reported the incident to Sandton SAPS, which led to Maphorisa’s arrest, according to National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Phindi Mjonodwane. She did, however, retract her submission before the hearing and concur with the defendant’s release on bond.

Thuli Phongolo is a well-known South African DJ and actress. She has been in the news because she withdrew the assault allegations against her boyfriend, DJ Maphorisa.
Her real name is Thulisile Phongolo. She was born on January 22, 1994, in Soweto, South Africa. While not much is known about her family, it is known that she reportedly has two siblings: one brother and one sister.
Thuli Phongolo completed her schooling at Allen Glen High School. Later, she attended the University of Johannesburg, where she studied strategic marketing communications.
She had previously been in a relationship with actor Raphael. Currently, her boyfriend is DJ Maphorisa. She is currently 29 years old but her height isn’t known.
Not much is known about Thuli Phongolo’s parents but she is believed to come from a well-off family.
Her career
Thuli Phongolo began working as an amateur disc jockey in September 2017 and continued doing so through at least April 2023. In the SABC 1 program series Tshisha in 2012, she made her acting debut in the character of Zama. Later, she joined the youth-focused program Craze-e on e.tv the next year, in 2013.
Subsequently, she was hired for the Generation’s new look in 2014, in which she was given the part of Namhala, a 17-year-old secondary school girl whose mother is Lucy Diale, played by Mana Rana, an ex-convict.
Later, she went on to perform on the SABC TV show Moti and Mzansi Magic’s The Republic. She was a performer in Hlomu: The Wife in November 2021. She was confirmed to star in the movie I Am Sofia in the same month.
