For the uninitiated, the movie is based on the true accounts of Hindu and Christian females from Kerala who were tricked into engaging in love jihad before being flown to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS.

Who is Sonia Sebastian, alias Ayisha?
Sonia Sebastian is an Indian national who becomes a terrorist for ISIS. She has been in the news because the recently released The Kerala Story loosely portrays her ordeal.
She was born Sonia Sebastian in a Christian Catholic family in Kasargod, Kerala. Her father’s name is V.J. Sebastian Francis. However, after falling in love with Abdul Rashid Abdulla, she converted to Islam and became Ayisha. They married in 2016 and have a daughter who would be 6-7 years old today.
It is also unknown whether Sonia Sebastian is currently in jail or not. However, she surrendered in 2019. While Abdulla was killed in a US attack in May 2019, it is unknown where the youngster is now.
Before moving to Afghanistan, her husband Abdulla was a teacher at the Peace International School in Kozhikode and also worked as an ISIS recruiter. He also had a second wife, Yasmin Mohammad Shaheed, who worked at the same institution. Yasmin was found guilty in 2018 of recruiting young people from Kerala to the Islamic State.
