Late last year, 2022, the team placed Murphy on leave while they investigated the allegations regarding his behavior.
According to reports, Murphy allegedly engaged in workplace misconduct with a female employee. His case is similar to what happened with Ime Udoka, former Boston Celti head coach, who also got fired.
Rob Murphy brief bio and age
Rob Murphy is the Detroit Pistons’ former assistant GM, who was born on September 19, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan. The 49-year-old spent most of his life focusing on basketball, starting out as a player, coach, and then executive.
During his early years, Murphy attended the Mumford High School in Detroit. He eventually moved to Wilberforce, Ohio, and attended the Central State University there. Growing up, Murphy was a talented athlete and spent four years playing for the college.
Rob Murphy professional career
Following his graduation, the former Detroit Pistons executive started out his career as a high school basketball coach. He found a lot of success at this stage, and had a 64-20 record in two years. He then joined Kent State to work as an assistant coach in 2002.
After working there for almost a decade, he joined Eastern Michigan as their head coach where he spent 10 seasons with a 166-155 record. After ending his career as a coach, Rob Murphy joined the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G League affiliate, as their president and general manager.
Last summer, Rob Murphy was promoted to the position of assistant general manager for the Pistons. However, following a case of workplace misconduct, he was fired. Aside from his career in Basketball, Murphy is also the CEO and president of the Rob Murphy Foundation, which he founded in May 2014.
