After a former female employee, DeJanai Raska accused the assistant general manager Rob Murphy of wrongdoing and s*xual assault, the Detroit Pistons have chosen to fire him

The News Titan can confirm that the Detroit Pistons have fired assistant general manager Rob Murphy. His dismissal was revealed by the team in a statement to the Free Press. It happens seven months after the Pistons put Murphy on leave as a result of an inquiry into a claim that he had interacted inappropriately with a former female employee at work.

DeJanai Raska, 32, who served as Murphy’s executive assistant from 2021 to 2022, is the complainant. In a complaint and an interview with the Free Press, Raska described how the executive assistant was subjected to sexual harassment, humiliation, and abuse by Murphy.

Late on Wednesday, the basketball association provided the Free Press with the following statement: “Rob Murphy is no longer employed in any way by the Detroit Pistons or the Motor City Cruise. Due to a recent violation of corporate policy and his employment contract, Mr Murphy’s employment was terminated.” A study of charges made by a former employee, backed by a national law firm, revealed the facts that led to his firing.
Following the claims, Murphy, in the words of the Pistons, “did not return to the workplace prior to his termination.” The Pistons add that “because this is a personnel matter, no further details will be forthcoming at this time.”
After serving as the president of the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G League franchise, for the 2021–22 season, Murphy, 50, was elevated to the position of assistant general manager last summer. Before working as an assistant coach in college, Murphy, a former basketball and football player at Detroit Mumford, coached at Detroit Crockett and Central High Schools.
At Syracuse, where Troy Weaver, the general manager of the Pistons, was an assistant coach under Jim Boeheim, Murphy first worked as a student assistant. For ten seasons (2011–21), Murphy led Eastern Michigan to three postseason appearances while serving as head coach.
