In this announcement, ASUS mentions that it will be creating a special plugin for the Unity Engine. Beyond that, ASUS doesn’t appear to have mentioned what the plugin will do for Unity and what features would be supported on its phones. In addition to supporting the ROG Phone 3, ASUS also reportedly mentioned that the plugin it creates will support features on the ROG phone 2 as well.
The partnership will mean that ASUS ROG series phones would be perfectly optimized for Unity Editor and game developers could use the device for proper game testing.
The 2 companies plan to arrange several dev-engagement events in 2020. Game developers who use the unity gaming engine could use a set of plugins, including Aura Light SDK, Gamepad SDK Refresh Rate Control SDK. We expect the ROG Phone 3 to feature a large OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and an under-display fingerprint reader. The Republic of Gamers brand will also create a plugin for Unity’s Engine that will support 5 features of the ROG Phone 2 as well as the ROG Phone 3 and yes. this is the first time ASUS has said anything official about its upcoming Phone.
As part of this joint venture, game developers using the Unity 3D creation platform will have exclusive access to a set of plugins, including TwinView SDK, Gamepad SDK, Aura Light, SDK, Refresh Rate Control SDK. In simple words, all future Unity games should be able to control the performance of a ROG Phone 2 and ROG Phone 3 including how it reacts to adds-on without compromising the gaming experience.
