After some nail-biting events on Monday at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, Thailand has moved to second position with total of 94 medals including 30 gold medals. However, hosts Cambodia retained their stronghold on the top position as they have already bagged century of medals including 37 gold medals.

At the Southeast Asian Games in 2023, Thailand’s Soraoat Dapbang won the men’s 200-meter race. Following a thrilling final in Phnom Penh, Dapbang crossed the finish line first on Monday in 20.62 seconds, followed by Vietnam’s Ngoc Nghia Ngan and Indonesia’s Lalu Zohri. Meanwhile, teenage sensation Puripol Boonson, pulled up in the final 50 meters with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, thereby ending his title defense. Some of the track and field competitions were later postponed due to heavy rain, including the men’s pole vault, which was moved to Tuesday. Ernest John Obiena, a world bronze medalist in the pole vault, is expected to win his third gold medal at the SEA Games.

All eyes were on the 21-year-old when Malaysia’s top divers Pandela Rinong, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, and Cheong Jun Hoong decided not to compete in the 2023 SEA Games in order to me place for others. And Bong did not disappoint, winning the 3-meter springboard competition on Monday. Kimberly was happy to win one of the two medals awarded to Malaysian competitors; Ong Ker Ying won the bronze. With their victory on Monday, Malaysia has now won the women’s 3m springboard competition at each SEA Games since Cheong Jun Hoong won the gold in 2011.
