Rome Masters 2023 competition preview

The Rome Masters 2023 competition is the last ATP & WTA 1000 stop before the French Open. As such, it serves as the best preview for what to expect in Paris.

Heading into the competition, World No. 1s Nov Djokovic and Iga Swiatek are the respective defending champions. However, after the Serbian withdrew from Madrid last week, his participation still remains in doubt.

Meanwhile, 10-time Rome winner Rafael Nadal, is also sidelined with a leg injury since January. On the other hand, Madrid Open winner Carlos Alcaraz will re-claim the No.1 ranking from Djokovic just by playing his opening match in Rome. This year’s edition will see the singles draws expanded to 96 players for the first time. It will also be the largest outside of the majors.
