Kobbie Mainoo, a young English player of Ghanaian ancestry has reportedly won the Young Player of the Year award at Manchester United.
According to a publication we sighted on Tru News Report, following his outstanding performance throughout their campaign, the teenager received the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Award.
In January, Mainoo earned his first team debut after beginning the Carabao Cup encounter with Charlton Athletic. He has since played twice more for the first team.
The talented midfielder has been essential for Manchester United with two goals and two assists for the U21s in Premier League 2.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I have been at this club all my life and it’s all been building to tonight. And to have my family here watching me, surrounding me, it is just amazing,” he said.
“I’ve been in training with the lads quite a few times. They all made me feel welcome and all gave me words of advice and encouragement. So I felt at home.
“To stay around it and to keep on getting more games is the ultimate goal. I want to stay at this club; I’ve been here my whole life.”
The Stockport, England, native began playing football as a youngster with Cheadle & Gatley Junior Football Club before switching to Manchester United at the age of nine. In May 2022, Mainoo committed to his first professional deal.
As a result of his efforts, particularly a strong performance in the middle of the field against Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy, he was called up to the senior squad for training in October 2022. On October 16, prior to a Premier League match against Newcastle United, he was first called to the bench.
