The Upper East Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered Ms Rita Etornam Sey, the founder of the Inspire Today Foundation, to substantiate her “wicked lies” or face the repercussions.

Ms Etornam Sey claimed that some girls in Northern Ghana use clay as a substitute for sanitary pads due to extreme poverty and deprivation.

In a press release, the NDC Upper East Region Women Organiser, Ms Fawzia Abagnabama Yakubu, demanded that Ms Etornam Sey provide an apology using the same media she had used to make the accusations within seven days.

“Such wicked falsehood is an affront to the dignity of northern girls. Hence, we demand proof of such claims or an unqualified apology via the same platform and means within 7 days she used in peddling such falsehood.

Anything short of the aforementioned demands, we shall advise ourselves accordingly,” the release said.

Ms Sey has come under a storm of criticism after social media about videos of her claiming some girls in parts of Northern Ghana use clay as a substitute for sanitary pads. Many criticized her for omitting to describe the location and method of the practice in Northern Ghana.
