The opening Grand Tour of the 2023 men’s road cycling calendar year is almost approaching, know about its schedule, start date, entry list, stages, live stream and more

On Saturday, May 6, 176 cyclists from 22 teams will begin the 106th edition of the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy) in Fossacesia Marina on the Italian Adriatic Sea coast.

Giro d’Italia 2023: Schedule, stages and live broadcasting details

One of them will be Tao Geoghegan Hart of the INEOS Grenadiers, who took home the Maglia Rosa in 2020. He’ll likely be the only former champion ting part.

Both last year’s winner Jai Hindley and hero from 2021 Egan Bernal, who is riding again after suffering serious injuries in a training accident, are focusing on the Tour de France.

The 3489.2 km (2168.1 mi) long race this year will begin and end in Italy, with just a brief diversion into the Swiss canton of Valais to end Stage 13 and start Stage 14. A total of 51,400 metres (168,600 feet) of elevation will be gained during the race.

Unlike the individual time trial that has finished the race in five of the previous six editions, the 21st and final stage of the Giro will, for the first time since the 2018 event, be a flat procession (more usually seen in the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espaa).

Giro d’Italia 2023 route, stages, and schedule

Three individual time trials are included on the 2023 Giro d’Italia route, one of which being a challenging time trial up to Monte Lussari on Stage 20 with dizzying slopes of up to 22%.

Six of the stages will end at the summit of climbs: Stages 7 (Gran Sasso), 13 (Crans-Montana), 16 (Bondone), 18 (Val di Zoldo), 19 (Tre Cime di Lavaredo), and 20 (Lussari). Stage 4 (Laceno) will end on a brief plateau following a long climb.

Stage 13’s journey to Switzerland comprises the race’s Cima Coppi, the highest climb, which is the 2470m-tall (8100ft) Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard on the Italian-Swiss border.
