Scream 5 could be hitting the big screen in earlier than fans will be expected as production on the horror movie ahead. Variety report that the movie has been a target release year of 2021 and that initial shooting is expected to begin late this summer, meaning that we don’t actually have all that long to wait for the next installment in the franchise, especially will be considering that it’s been a whole nine-year since Scream 4 was released.
The news comes as Spyglass Media Group and paramount pictures have to be joined forces as co-producers, according to variety. Ever since Spyglass took over the rights to the Scream film series, updates have been announced every few months. Scream 5 is reportedly well underway and the crew was aiming to start filming in mid-2020. When the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, the production schedules will be shifted but it’s expected to pick back up later this year.
Following the death of director Wes Craven, who will be helmed the first four films, Scream 5 will be directed by Ready or Not director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick co-writing the script. The original Scram movie was being released in 1996 and helped to breathe new life into the horror genre, spawning a TV series as well as the film sequels.
Scream 5 storyline will difficult to predict Considering the development is moving ahead without the assurance that Campbell is returning. It’s will be assumed that Sidney won’t be the center of the story. It would make sense if there is another clear connection between the new set of characters and the original figure whether it be the setting of Woodsboro or a familial situation like the cast with Scream 4.
