Takashi Shimizu’s original 1998 shorts, through the feature films, sequels American remakes, sequels to those remakes, this year’s reboot Grudge. Ju-On: Origins feels like something new fresh, very much rooted in the traditions of the franchise fans love, but told through a new perspective. This show is written by Hiroshi Takahashi and Takashige Ichise. the series purpose to tells the True Story behind the Ju-On mythology which was inspired by the Urban legend of Kayako. If the series is renewed by Netflix, an optimistic prediction for a season 2 release date would be early 2021. If season 1 proves to be an amazing hit and I could see Netflix pushing a season 2 production towards a Halloween 2020 release. There is a possibility that there will be major production delays associated with COVID-19.
Some Horror franchises have been as resilient as “Ju-On” which faded in popularity stateside, at least until the release earlier this year of Nicolas Pesce’s take on “The Grudge” but has been persistent in the home country of Japan. The idea of Brutal violence cursing a place or person now comes to Netflix in the form of a 6-episode prequel series called Ju-On: Origins and It proves that there’s still some life in this concept.
“Origins” starts with the story of a journalist who is collecting stories of the supernatural and encounters an actress with quite a tale. A teenager is taken to the house by a few classmates and brutally assaulted and raped there. The makers of Origins employ real-world horror like child murder and vicious assault more than they do supernatural events.
