After Netflix canceled Marvel’s The Punisher after 2 seasons, fans had hoped to see their fan-favorite superhero series on the TV screen once again. Jon Bernthal will continue playing the vigilante Frank Castle/ Punisher in the reboot show as well. The Punisher takes place in the same universe as the MCU. Mikey Sutton a renowned tipster, reported that Marvel is planning to develop the Punisher series for adult audiences. The Punisher, without any violence, would be like an action-comedy. Evan fans wouldn’t want to see the PG version of Frank Castle. Sutton added that the upcoming series would be based on the popular War Journal comic book.
Having initially been star cast in Daredevil Jon Bernthal’s take on the troubled military veteran was given his own solo series that ran for 2 seasons before being canceled along with the rest of Netflix’s Marvel lineup. With the rights set to fall back into the hands of Marvel Studios, there’s been constant speculation that Bernthal could be kept on when the Punisher is eventually rebooted again and absorbed into the MCU and currently a new report claims that the studio is indeed keen for him to return for a new show that would not be connected to his last run canonically.
Thi s is not the confirmation for now, because Disney might be changing its traditional ways after the acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Ryan Reynolds already confirmed that the Deadpool 3 movie is in the works with Disney and Marvel Studios.
The problem with the Netflix incarnation of the character is that there is not necessarily room for that level of variety. Perhaps the single biggest change the Netflix shows have made to Frank Castle involves his motivations for becoming the Punisher. In the comics, Frank declares war on all criminals after his family is caught in the crossfire of a gang war.
