Here is a gnarly action-thriller from France with the kind of heavy artillery and paramilitary display that director Julien Leclercq loves. But considering the running time is just 80 minutes he seems to run out of ideas well before the final credits and the whole thing is wrapped up almost perfunctorily. Julien Leclercq’s translated title as fetching as “Earth and Blood”, promised much especially if you had sampled its blazing trailer, or if your inner action addict came of age watching Luc Besson, Louis Leterrier or Oliver Megaton’s irresistible blood-soaked fare that influenced French violent cinema, the cinema of violence anywhere in the world over the past decades.
