It was revealed by Nintendo back in 2017 that the Witch Queen Bayonetta is coming back once again after a long six-year hiatus with Bayonetta 3. Ever since there’s been little in the way of new information beyond a few interview snippets dwelling on the project.
We thought it’d be best to put all of that information together to help you get caught up in anticipation of its arrival, which can’t be too far away. Here’s everything we know so far about Bayonetta 3.
ABOUT BAYONETTA:
Bayonetta is the third entry in the Platinum Games series Bayonetta, which was first introduced to the public back in 2009. Spearheaded by Hideki Kamiya, the game takes cues from his previous work like the Devil May Cry series.
It’s a hack and slashes in a world where angels known as Lumen Sages collide in conflict with Umbra Witches. Bayonetta is a witch with amnesia who fights her wicked way through hordes of enemies in order to save the world, collecting a cast of charming side characters along the way.
BAYONETTA 3 RELEASE DATE:
In April 2019, the game’s release date was bumped from what many expected to be 2019 to an even more mysterious ‘to be announced’ placeholder during Nintendo’s quarterly financial report. This means it’s very difficult to speculate about the final Bayonetta 3 release date, but hopefully, we’ll hear more soon, potentially during a forthcoming Nintendo Direct, the company’s preferred means of contact.
GAME’S CREATOR EXPLAINS WHY IT’S A NINTENDO SWITCH EXCLUSIVE?
To help explain Platinum’s reasoning, company vice president and Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya took to Twitter to issue a 15-tweet statement on the matter.
“When we started making Bayonetta 2, we initially received funds from Sega to develop the game for multiple platforms, but the project was halted due to circumstances at Sega,” he reveals. “Nintendo then stepped in to continue funding the game, allowing us to finish it. As such, the rights belong to Sega and Nintendo. The rights owners decided the game should be made for Wii U.”
“All of the rights still belong to Sega and Nintendo. The rights owners decided that the game should be made for Switch.”
“I cannot express how happy I am that we get to make Bayonetta 3, and we intend to do everything within our power to make it as good as it can be. That’s all we can do, and we consider it our greatest mission.
“It took a while for the production of Bayonetta 3 to be okayed, but now that it has kicked off, I hope it will turn into a wonderful encounter for all of you.”
