Joaquin Phoenix took Golden Globes Sunday night for his role in The Joker, but not without drama.
Following the recognition of his fellow nominees, Phoenix, a longtime skeptic of the Hollywood Awards show, said: “There is no better best actor.” NBC continues to cut out the sound as it seems to have dropped several f-bombs, all of which were turned off for viewers.
“It hurt me so much,” he later told the Joker director Todd Phillips. “I can’t believe that you put up with me.”
He continued: “It is very nice that so many people came and sent their good wishes, but we have to do more, right? Such a beautiful gesture and I was not always a virtuous person. I learn so much that many of you in this room have given me many opportunities to do it right. ”
After several winners of the evening made political and social comments, including Australia’s wishes regarding the fires, as well as requests to vote in the 2020 elections, Phoenix began to tear apart the hypocrisy in the room before NBC nearly played it out with music.
“It’s nice to vote, but sometimes we have to take this responsibility and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives, and I hope we can do it, we don’t need to sometimes deliver private jets to or from Palm Springs, please,” he said. “I will try to do better, and I hope you also thank you for putting up with me. I am so grateful for this night and thank you all.
Now Joaquin Phoenix became the second actor in the prize of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for portraying the Joker. At the Golden Globes in 2009, Heath Ledger received a posthumous award in the category “Best Supporting Actor” for “The Dark Knight.”
Sunday’s victory marked the second victory of the Golden Globes of the Phoenix. He previously received a trophy in 2006 for best actor in a musical or comedy for his role as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line. He was nominated for four other Golden Globes: in 2001 for the Gladiator, in 2013 for the Master, in 2014 for “Her,” and in 2015 for “Congenital vice.”
The victory of the Phoenix came as a surprise, as many experts predicted that Adam Driver would be honored for his performance in Marriage Story. But the Globes have a way to change the dynamics of the award season, while the Phoenix, which has never received an Oscar before, can be repeated again next month at the Oscars.
The Joker, directed by Todd Phillips, has raised $ 1.1 million worldwide
