Buffalo Bills wide receiver Damar Hamlin had a heart attack during the team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he is now in serious condition in the hospital.
Bills’ 24-year-old defensive back Damar Hamlin is still in critical condition after a heart attack. He had stood up after making a routine tackle on Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. He then fell to the ground.
The game in Cincinnati stopped while medical staff rushed to help him and did CPR for about 10 minutes. Players on both teams could be seen upset as the situation unfolded.
Hamlin’s family said in a statement that they would give updates on his health as soon as they have him. “We want to thank the people who have shown love and support during this challenging time.
Prayers, kind words, and donations from fans all over the country have touched us deeply,” said his family, which Hamlin’s agent released.
“I am so thankful to the medical doctors and staff of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for taking great care of Damar. I truly appreciate their support as part of the Buffalo Bills organization.”
Dorrian Glenn, Hamlin’s uncle, told CNN on Tuesday night that his nephew was revived twice. Glenn said that the players tried to revive him on the field before taking him to the hospital, but they tried again when they got him to the hospital.
He also said, “I just want to thank the doctors and nurses on duty last night because my nephew probably wouldn’t be alive today without them. I’ve never cried so hard before.
Just to let you know, my nephew pretty much died on the field, but they brought him back to life. They put him to sleep to give him a better chance of survival. Simply put, we live day by day as it comes. It looks like he is going in a good direction.”
“What happened last night puts the game and any other sport in the background. There’s an emotional tie between our team and the city. Our conversations this morning were challenging, to be honest.
The players all wanted to do what they could to help us, but they also realized how much our team meant to this city. They just wanted to do what they could today to put their best foot forward.”
The Bills announced that Hamlin had a cardiac arrest and was taken to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He had been drugged and was in a severe condition.
He is now unconscious and in critical condition. At 9:25 p.m. an ambulance picked Hamlin up and transported him to the hospital. At 9:25 p.m. local time, while Hamlin was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, Bills head coach Sean McDermott led his team in prayer.
Following the prayer, players from both teams, some with tears in their eyes, proceeded to the locker rooms.
This is Hamlin’s second season playing in the National Football League. The Bills picked him up in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after he had spent five years playing college football at Pittsburgh.
This season, he started 14 games for the Bills when safety Micah Hyde was hurt. Hyde hurt his neck in Week 2 and has been on injured reserve ever since. Hamlin has 91 tackles this season, which is tied for the second-most on the team. The whole Bills team left Miami just after midnight and returned to Buffalo that night. However, some of them chose to stay in Cincinnati.
Adams said, “After what happened last night, the game and any other sport are boring to me.” “There is an emotional tie between our team and the city. The conversations this morning were tough, to be honest.” “But I think [the players] also know that what they do means a lot to the city, so they want to do everything they can now to help it recover.”
Many people from the NFL and other sports organizations and the general public expressed their condolences and prayers on social media shortly after the news broke. He is still there today (Tuesday) in critical condition.
In 2007, former safety for the Steelers, Ryan Clark, was hospitalized in Denver. At high altitudes, his sickle cell trait became worse and caused his organs to fail.
Now that trauma has happened this team doesn’t know what to do now that trauma has occurred. The dream of Damar Hamlin had become a nightmare for him and his family.
LeBron James spoke to reporters to offer his thoughts on the postponement of the Buffalo Bills game.
Many NFL players, teams, and people outside of sports quickly posted messages of support and prayers on social media.
James said, “Roger Goodell or whoever has the ability to make that call was correct in postponing the game.”
“Player safety is of paramount importance in any sports.” “What happened is horrible, and I hope for the best for the youngster, Buffalo, the Bills, the NFL, and the Bengals. As a great NFL and football fan, I can say that.”
