Hit the links, Logan Roy! Prior to the intervention of his kids, Brian Cox of Succession said that he had “not realized the actual impact” of a Super Bowl advertisement.
The 76-year-old legendary stage and film actor was persuaded to participate in Michelob Ultra’s 2023 commercial by his family after he was contacted by the company.
“It was too much that I can ask for and I had no idea what a Super Bowl advertisement was. My boys described it to me. “Dad, being invited to appear in a Super Bowl commercial is one of the biggest accolades you could have.” Really, I exclaimed. I said, “Oh, OK. On Monday, January 30, Cox spoke exclusively to Us Weekly. Then they revealed that I would be playing golf alongside Serena Williams, which was a really intimidating prospect. And I don’t consider myself to be a really athletic person. She is without a doubt the best female athlete in the world, by which I mean.
In the commercial, which also features Alex Morgan of the US Women’s National Soccer Team, Tony Romo, a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, and boxer Canelo Alvarez, and the tennis pro and actor Churchill, aged 41, practice their swings on a golf course in a parody of the 1980s film Caddyshack.
“[Serena] was extremely kind and sweet, and she exuded great dignity. Because there was no fuss, I felt the utmost regard for her. She simply carried out the assignment,” Cox told Us. Many actresses, I assure you, could benefit from Serena Williams’ example. Additionally, I know how to focus. With Serena, there is no talk; it just works. Just do it, and do it well. She carries it out. She’s pretty amazing.
While Cox is the first to confess that golf is not his strong suit. “I enjoy following the game. But, he said, “I’ve never been very good [at] putting small balls in little holes. “That’s not something I do well. That is not my strength. That also applies to the pool. I mean, I’m just a total failure.
Completely futile In actuality, that was the event I was most dreading. when they stated that Serena and I would be playing golf together, do they realize that I’m not a golfer? I questioned. Do they know that? Is that okay? They then said, “Oh sure, it’s OK,” But I exercised. My swing was excellent. I must admit that I’m extremely pleased with my swing. The only issue is that you’ll see it didn’t hit or contact a ball if you glanced at the opposite end of the swing.
“The magic of cinema is that it can make you appear like an expert when you know absolutely nothing,” he joked.
When Cox was 7 years old, he played the sport for the first time in Scotland. I grew raised less than 30 minutes from St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. And all throughout my upbringing, golf was all around me. And when I was seven, my mother took me to the Open at Carnoustie, which was only a 10-minute drive from my house,” he recalled with pleasure. I had a photo of me and Ben Hogan, but I lost it, and I also saw Ben Hogan win. But that was incredible.
Cox is looking forward to seeing the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chief play on Sunday, February 12, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Cox completed a full circle by appearing in his Super Bowl golf commercial.
I’m excited to be heading out – even more so since my boys are joining me! I’ve seen American football a few times, but it seems like the kids need to explain it all over again every time we watch. When they asked if we’d come along and join in on the fun, there was no way I could say ‘No!’ So let’s go cheer on our team together: you can tell me all about those football rules one more time when we get there!
The “New Members Day” commercial for Michelob ULTRA will appear during Super Bowl LVII, which will begin on FOX at 6:30 p.m. ET. Since 1997, PGA TOUR and PGA America have been sponsored by Michelob ULTRA, a company that lives by the motto, “It’s Only Worth It If You Enjoy It.”
