Ally McCoist grew up in East Kilbride, where he attended Maxwellton Primary and Hunter High School.
McCoist began his playing career with Scottish club St Johnstone before making a move to English side Sunderland in 1981. His time as a Sunderland player was one to forget as he only managed to score Nine goals in 65 appearances for them.

He however, returned to Scotland just after two years of English football and signed with Rangers where he went on to establish a name for himself as a club icon.
