Sarath Babu appeared in more than 200 films, in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and the Hindi industry. He became famous after his movie Nizhal Nijamagiradhu got released in 1978. It was directed by K. Balachander. For this movie, he won eight State Nandi Awards.

But later at the age of 71 years on the 22nd of May 2023, Sarath Babu died at the AIG Hospital based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. There were many rumors that he had died on the 3rd of May 2023 due to his severe illness; however, the news reports later confirmed that he was still alive and was under treatment.
The relatives of Sarath and PR have been informed not to go by social media reports. He was earlier married to Rama Prabha from 1974 to 1988 and later to Sneha Nambiar from 1990 to 2011. He had two kids namely Sai Karthik and Pallavi.
