Actor and animal rights activist Joaquin phoenix is asking people to sponsor a mother cow for this mother’s day as a compassionate gift. Earlier this year, phoenix rescued a cow called liberty and her calf indigo from a slaughterhouse. The vegan actor then took them to live together at the sanctuary. Phoenix is asking supporters to celebrate liberty’s first Mother day at the sanctuary with a donation of $35 or more.
It’s is impossible not to smile at the love that radiates from Liberty for her calf indigo, said phoenix, or the marvelous curiosity they share for their new life roaming spacious land in the permanent sanctuary. “Thanks to generous supporters like you, liberty is able to nurse indigo, bond with her protect her, and watch her grown up – just as nature intended.
When phoenix rescued liberty and indigo earlier this year, the calf was just a week and a half old. The animal was taken lawfully from the Manning beef slaughterhouse in California after a negotiation with the owner Anthony DiMaria. During his discussion with DiMaria, the actor explained I don’t need any science to see with my own eyes and hear how an animal responds to pain. It’s not only death, but it’s also the process leading up to the death, right? Raising it is transportation, the separation from the family. Would you sponsor a cow as a mother’s day gift this year?
